He served as Medical Director of G B Pant IPGMER from 2014 to 2018, Dean of Maulana Azad Medical College from 2018 to 2019, and Director General of Health Services, Government of India, in 2019.
- His clinical expertise covers coronary angioplasty and stenting, pacemaker implantation and the treatment of heart rhythm disorders. He manages the full spectrum of heart disease, including heart attack and angina, heart failure, valvular and rheumatic heart disease, cardiomyopathy, heart block, hypertensive heart disease, peripheral artery disease and congenital heart disease in adults. His early work on balloon angioplasty in Takayasu arteritis is widely cited.
- He is a prolific academic with over 300 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Circulation, American Heart Journal, Pediatrics, Heart and JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, and has authored more than 40 textbook chapters. His research is cited in standard textbooks of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. He has served as Secretary General of the International College of Angiology and on the editorial board of the journal Angiology (USA).
- Prof. Tyagi has received numerous honours, including the Dr B C Roy National Award from the President of India (2008), the Dr S Radhakrishnan Memorial National Teacher Award (2014), the Life Time Achievement Award of the Cardiological Society of India, Delhi (2020), the Pioneers in Interventional Cardiology award (2017) and the Eminent Medical Teacher Award of the Delhi Medical Association (2022). He follows a patient-centric approach, explaining each condition clearly and tailoring treatment to the individual.
