Radial access, through the artery at the wrist, reduces bleeding complications and allows patients to mobilise sooner than the traditional groin approach.
- His practice includes emergency primary angioplasty for heart attacks, multivessel and complex coronary stenting and chronic total occlusion work, reflected in his membership of the Indo Japanese CTO Club. He is co-author of Radial Pearls, a handbook of tips and techniques for radial interventions, and regularly serves as faculty at state, national and international cardiology conferences presenting challenging coronary cases.
- Dr. Rao was a co-investigator in the CREATE trial of reviparin in acute STEMI published in JAMA (2005), as well as the Polycap and Metafor studies. He is a Fellow of the Indian College of Cardiology and an International Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, and a member of the Cardiological Society of India, Indian Medical Association, Indian Society of Cardiology and American College of Cardiology.
