He has completed his MS from Bombay, DNB, and FRCS from Edinburgh, UK, followed by a Clinical Fellowship in GI Surgical Oncology at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai in 2003 and specialised training in Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic cancer surgery from Nagoya University, Japan.

  • Dr. Chhabra initially joined Lilavati Hospital in 2003 as a Clinical Fellow in GI Surgical Oncology and has since performed more than 5,000 cancer surgeries. He trained in hepato-biliary and pancreatic cancer surgery at Nagoya University, Japan, under the mentorship of Prof. Yuji Nimura, and is a certified robotic surgeon trained in laparoscopic and robotic cancer surgery at Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea.
  • His expertise spans gastrointestinal, liver, gallbladder, pancreatic, gynaecological, breast and peritoneal cancers. He is among the few doctors in India specialising in peritoneal cancer surgery, performing cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC, in which all visible tumour is removed from the abdomen and heated chemotherapy is circulated during the operation. His areas of interest also include oesophageal, stomach, colon and rectal cancers, neuroendocrine tumours, soft tissue sarcomas and chemotherapy port placement.
  • He was involved in an international collaborative study on gallbladder cancer between India and Japan, with research accepted in the Best Paper Award session at IHPBA 2008. His publications include work on heavy metal exposure and gallbladder cancer risk, surgical treatment of neuroendocrine liver metastases, liver transection techniques, microsatellite instability in colorectal carcinoma and radiofrequency ablation of liver tumours, in journals such as the Journal of the American College of Surgeons and the World Journal of Surgery.
  • Dr. Chhabra is a member of the International and Asia-Pacific Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Associations and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, has been invited faculty at national and international HPB meetings, and was Clinical Coordinator for the Asia-Pacific Neuroendocrine Tumour Registry.
