He was an International Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1993 and 1998 with Prof. Michael Henderson, and received advanced training in hepatic surgery in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan, with Prof. Makuuchi and Prof. Ken Takasaki. He also attended the summer school for neuroendocrine gastrointestinal and hepatological diseases at the Charite Campus University, Berlin.
  • His areas of interest are gastrointestinal oncology and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery. This covers surgery for cancers of the oesophagus, stomach, colon and rectum, as well as complex operations on the liver, bile ducts, gallbladder and pancreas, such as liver resection and the Whipple procedure.
  • Dr. Shah is a founder member of the Indian Chapter of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA) and was part of the organising committee for its first national conference in 2001 and the 8th World Congress of IHPBA in 2008. He is a life member of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, the Indian Society of Oncology, the Indian Association for the Study of the Liver and the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology.
