Dr. Nagireddi Nageswara Rao is Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon and Currently Working as Clinical Director and Senior Consultant - CTVS, MICS and Heart Transplant Surgeon in the Cardiac Surgery Department at CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, India.

He is having more than 29 years of experience in the field of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery.

He has completed his MBBS from Andhra Medical College in 1986, MS from Andhra Medical College in 1993, MCh (Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery) from NIMS in 1996, and FIACS.

Dr. Rao began his consultant career at NIMS, Hyderabad (1997-2004), before moving to Global Hospital, Hyderabad (2004-2008) and Prime Hospital, Hyderabad (2008-2010). From 2010 to 2025 he served as Head of the Department of CTVS at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, before joining CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills.
He has performed more than 11,000 cardiac surgeries, including off-pump and on-pump coronary bypass, valve surgery, congenital heart repair and complex aortic surgery. He has also performed over 500 closed heart surgeries, more than 350 lung surgeries including thoracoscopic (VATS) procedures, and about 400 vascular surgeries, and has conducted more than 10 live OPCAB demonstrations.
Dr. Rao has been part of several landmark milestones: the team that performed the first heart transplant in Andhra Pradesh (2004) and the first combined heart-kidney transplant in India (2005), and he was the first surgeon in Telangana to implant the HeartMate III left ventricular assist device (2016). His expertise extends to ECMO and Centrimag support for patients with severe heart and lung failure.
He has five publications, has guided 22 research and thesis works and has trained MCh and DNB cardiothoracic surgery students. He received the Rising Star Award from the Times Group (2016) and the Vaidya Siromani award (2006), and is a life member of the Indian Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgeons and the Indian Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, and a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery (USA) and the Vascular Society of India.
