- He has extensive experience in reconstruction after cancer resection, hand and brachial plexus surgery, post-burn reconstruction and the correction of birth defects. On the aesthetic side, he performs a range of cosmetic procedures as well as hair replacement surgery using flaps and micro hair transplants.
- Dr. Gupta is a pioneer in gender affirmation surgery in India, and his department performs around 15 to 20 such procedures every year. He is a Founding Director of the Association for Transgender Health in India (ATHI) and its professional wing, the Indian Professional Association for Transgender Health (IPATH), and was organising chairperson of IPATHCON 2019.
- He co-wrote the surgical chapter of, and was instrumental in releasing, the first Indian Standards of Care for gender incongruence and differences in sexual development (ISCO1), released during IPATHCON 2020. He has many publications in national and international journals and regularly participates in CME programmes and conferences.
