Know More About Procedure & Surgery
Otoplasty (Ear Reshaping Surgery) in India
Pins back prominent ears and corrects misshapen or uneven ears in children from about age 5 and in adults. Done as day-care by experienced plastic and ENT surgeons at accredited Indian hospitals, at a fraction of UK, US or Gulf prices.
📖 What is Otoplasty?
The outer ear is made of a thin, bendable cartilage covered by skin. In about 1–2% of people the ears stick out more than usual (prominent or 'bat' ears). This usually happens because a natural fold in the cartilage (the antihelical fold) has not formed, or the bowl of the ear (concha) is too deep. Other people have ears that are uneven, folded or misshapen from birth or after injury. Prominent ears do not affect hearing but can cause teasing and low confidence, especially in children.
Otoplasty, also called pinnaplasty or ear pinning, reshapes the ear cartilage and sets the ears closer to the head. The cut is hidden in the crease behind the ear. Permanent stitches create the missing fold and pull the ear back; extra cartilage or skin may be removed. It can be done once the ears are nearly fully grown, from about age 5–6, and in adults of any age.

🏥 The Procedure — Step by Step

⚖️ Types & Techniques
| Technique | What is done | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Suture technique (Mustardé / Furnas) | Permanent stitches create a fold and set the ear back | Most children and adults with soft cartilage |
| Cartilage scoring / cutting | Front of the cartilage is weakened to bend it | Stiff cartilage in adults |
| Conchal reduction | Part of the deep ear bowl removed | Ears pushed out by a large concha |
| Earlobe reduction | Skin and fat trimmed from the lobe | Large or protruding earlobes |
| Ear moulding (non-surgical) | Splints shape the soft ear cartilage | Newborns in the first weeks of life |

🏆 Success Rate
| Outcome | Result |
|---|---|
| Patient / parent satisfaction | Over 90% |
| Relapse needing revision | About 5–10% |
| Haematoma (blood collection) | About 1–3% |
| Infection | About 1–2% |

Results are best when the patient (or the child) wants the surgery, has realistic expectations and follows instructions on bandage and headband use.

- •Slight difference between the two ears
- •Blood collection under the skin (haematoma), about 1–3%
- •Infection (about 1–2%)
- •Stitch showing through or needing removal
- •Thick scar (keloid), more likely in darker skin
