📖 What is Ultherapy?
With age, the skin loses collagen and elastin – the proteins that keep it firm and springy. The deeper support layer under the skin, called the SMAS (the same layer tightened in a surgical facelift), also becomes loose. This causes sagging brows, jowls along the jawline, a double chin, loose neck skin and fine lines.
Ultherapy is a non-surgical treatment that uses micro-focused ultrasound with visualisation (MFU-V). The doctor first sees the skin layers on an ultrasound screen, then delivers tiny points of heat at exact depths (1.5, 3.0 and 4.5 mm), reaching the SMAS without damaging the surface. The body responds by making new collagen over 2–3 months, which gradually lifts and tightens the skin. It is FDA-cleared for lifting the brow, under-chin and neck, and for improving lines on the décolletage (upper chest). It is sometimes called a 'non-surgical facelift'; generic HIFU machines are similar but Ultherapy is the original branded system.
