His special interests are hypertension, kidney transplantation and the treatment of acute renal failure. He manages chronic kidney disease at all stages, including diabetic kidney disease, and guides patients through dialysis planning and transplant evaluation, as well as long-term care of transplant recipients.
In critically ill patients he provides continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED), gentler forms of dialysis that suit patients with unstable blood pressure, and performs central venous catheterisation for dialysis access. He also performs renal biopsy to establish the cause of kidney disease, and treats electrolyte imbalance disorders and renal tubular acidosis.
His academic work includes studies on acute renal failure in HELLP syndrome and renal rickets. He is a member of the Indian Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Nephrology and the ISN Southern Chapter, regularly gives public talks in English and Telugu on chronic kidney disease, kidney stones and diabetic nephropathy, and consults in English, Hindi and Telugu.
