Dr. Ratan Jha is one of the most experienced nephrologists in Hyderabad. Before taking up his role as Clinical Director of Nephrology at CARE Hospitals, he served as Consultant Nephrologist at Medwin Hospitals for 22 years and as Senior Consultant Nephrologist at Virinchi Hospitals for 6 years. For about three decades he has also been a DNB training teacher, and he has served for several years as a National Board of Examinations examiner for the nephrology super-speciality.
His areas of expertise include kidney disease and renal transplantation, diabetic kidney disease, heart failure in chronic kidney disease, lupus nephritis, infections in dialysis patients, renal tubular acidosis and complex electrolyte and acid-base disturbances. He manages patients through every stage of kidney disease, from early diagnosis and slowing progression to dialysis and transplant care.
He has an outstanding academic record, with 75 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and 125 platform presentations at national and international conferences and webinars. He has authored book chapters, participated in clinical drug trials and is regularly invited as faculty to national conferences. He was a gold medallist in DTCD, receiving the R. Viswanathan Memorial Prize from Delhi University and the B.K. Sikand Memorial Gold Medal from the Tuberculosis Association of India, and has won best paper prizes at API 1998 and APICON 2002.
His recent honours include the title of Legend in Nephrology in the Twin Telugu States at the Times Healthcare Achievers Awards (2017), the Distinguished Nephrologist Award from the Governor of Telangana (2020), the Dronacharya Award for CME Excellence in Nephrology (2021) and the Eminent DNB Teacher Award from ANBAI (2021). He is a Fellow of the Indian Society of Nephrology (2011) and a life member of ISN, ISOT, PDSI, API and IMA, and consults in Hindi, English and Bengali.
