In April 2025 he was a Visiting Scholar in the Nephrology Department of the University of Alabama, USA.
His clinical practice covers acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, rapidly progressive renal failure and kidney disease screening. He performs haemodialysis catheter placement via the femoral and jugular routes, acute peritoneal dialysis catheter insertion and management of CAPD, and provides continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), ECMO-supported and other extracorporeal therapies for critically ill patients. He also undertakes pre-transplant evaluation of kidney recipients and donors and long-term post-transplant care, and manages renal failure in children through conservative care, dialysis and transplantation.
Critical care nephrology and onco-nephrology are his special interests. Onco-nephrology deals with kidney problems in patients with cancer, which may be caused by the tumour itself or by chemotherapy and other treatments. He has presented first-author work at ERA-EDTA 2020, AKI-CRRT 2023 and 2024, APAC 2023 and APCN-KSN 2024 on topics such as acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery, sepsis, transplant complications and acute kidney injury in malignancy.
Dr. Kota has written book chapters for ISCCM critical care textbooks in 2023 and 2024, published a first-author article in the Journal of Translational Critical Care Medicine in 2023, and lectured at nephrology and critical care forums in Hyderabad and Mumbai. He is a Life Member of the Association of Physicians of India and the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine, and consults in Telugu, Tamil and English.
