He is an intraocular implant specialist with additional expertise in low-vision prosthetics and electro-oculophysiology, the study of the eye's electrical responses used to diagnose retinal and optic nerve disorders.
- He was an early innovator in lens implant technology. He received recognition from the American Intraocular Implant Society, Los Angeles (1978), for developing soft intraocular implants, and from the National Eye Research Foundation, Chicago, for outstanding research in ophthalmology, the first time it was presented to an Indian doctor.
- He has more than 25 publications and has presented papers in India and abroad. His other honours include the Ravi Bhandare Award of the Indian Contact Lens Society (1976 and 1977) and an appreciation award from the Contact Lens Society, Calcutta (1979).
