His particular interests are peripheral arterial disease and dialysis access. Peripheral arterial disease narrows the arteries of the legs and can cause pain on walking, non-healing wounds and gangrene; interventional radiologists treat it with angioplasty and stenting through a small puncture rather than open surgery. He also performs procedures to create, maintain and salvage dialysis fistulas and grafts, helping kidney patients continue effective haemodialysis.
He also performs onco-interventions, image-guided procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, such as biopsies, drainages and targeted therapies delivered directly to tumours.
Dr. Chainulu received the Young Achiever Award at the Asian Oceanian Congress of Radiology (AOCR) in Japan in September 2014 for his work on a management-oriented approach to evaluating acute abdomen in oncology patients. He has published a number of articles and presented papers and posters at state and national conferences.
He is a member of the Indian Society for Vascular and Interventional Radiology, the Indian Society of Radiology and Imaging and the Indian Medical Association, and consults in English, Hindi and Telugu.
