He then served as Senior Resident in Interventional Neuroradiology at Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai (2022-2023) before joining Yashoda Hospitals, Hitec City. He is certified by the European Board of Interventional Radiology and has performed over 2,000 neuro and vascular cases.
In neuro interventions, he performs mechanical thrombectomy for acute stroke, coiling of brain aneurysms, embolisation of arteriovenous malformations and dural fistulae, carotid and intracranial stenting, venous sinus stenting for idiopathic intracranial hypertension and middle meningeal artery embolisation for chronic subdural haematoma. These pinhole procedures are performed through a catheter inserted into an artery, avoiding open surgery.
His interventional oncology work includes TACE, TARE, radiofrequency and microwave ablation, biopsies and intra-arterial chemotherapy for retinoblastoma. He also performs embolisation for GI bleeding, TIPSS and DIPS for portal hypertension, BRTO and related procedures for gastric varices, biliary drainage and stenting, TEVAR and EVAR for aortic disease, peripheral angioplasty and stenting, varicose vein treatment and thrombectomy for DVT and acute limb ischaemia.
His practice further covers renal angioplasty, dialysis access management, nephrostomy, prostatic artery embolisation, bronchial and pulmonary AVM embolisation, pulmonary thrombectomy, uterine artery embolisation for fibroids and postpartum haemorrhage, pelvic congestion and varicocele embolisation, central line and chemoport placement, and image-guided drainage, coeliac plexus block and thermal ablation.
Dr. Nikhil has published on stroke imaging, intra-arterial tirofiban during thrombectomy, renal angiomyolipoma embolisation, orbital arteriovenous fistula and congenital portosystemic shunt embolisation, and the impact of COVID-19 on interventional radiology practice. He won first prize for a paper on hepatic artery hypoperfusion syndrome at Imaging and Intervention in Organ Transplantation 2022, first prize at the IRIA Tamil Nadu chapter (2020) and first place in the EDURAD radiology quiz (2019). He is a member of ISVIR, STNI, the European Society of Radiology and the Indian Society of Neuroradiology, and consults in English, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Tamil.
