Dr. Sanket Kulkarni is Interventional Radiologist and Currently Working as Consultant Interventional Radiologist in the Interventional Radiology Department at Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, India.
He is having more than 3 years of experience in the field of Interventional Radiology.
He has completed his MBBS from BMCRI, Bangalore in 2013, MD (Radiodiagnosis) from SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack in 2019, DNB (Radiodiagnosis) from the National Board of Examinations in 2019, PDCC in Gastro Radiology from SGPGIMS, Lucknow in 2020, PDCC in Vascular Radiology from SGPGIMS, Lucknow in 2021 and PDCC in Neuroradiology from SGPGIMS, Lucknow in 2023.
Before joining Yashoda Hospitals, Dr. Kulkarni served as Senior Resident in the Department of Radiology at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, from 2019 to 2023. His three post-doctoral certificate courses at SGPGIMS gave him focused super-speciality training across gastrointestinal, vascular and neuro-interventional radiology, one of the broadest training pathways in the discipline.
His neuro-interventional practice covers mechanical thrombectomy for acute ischaemic stroke, coiling and flow-diverter treatment of brain aneurysms, embolisation of intracranial and spinal vascular malformations, carotid stenting, venous sinus angioplasty and petrosal sinus sampling. These minimally invasive, catheter-based techniques allow blockages to be cleared and abnormal vessels to be sealed from within the blood vessels, avoiding open surgery.
In gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary intervention he performs embolisation for GI bleeding, BRTO and TIPSS for portal hypertension, hepatic vein and IVC recanalisation for Budd-Chiari syndrome, transjugular liver biopsy, PTBD and biliary stenting, cholecystostomy and feeding gastrostomy or jejunostomy. For liver cancer he offers chemoembolisation (TACE) and microwave or radiofrequency ablation, which target tumours directly while sparing healthy liver tissue.
His work also extends to renal and genitourinary procedures such as renal angioplasty, nephrostomy and varicocele embolisation, women's health procedures including uterine fibroid and pelvic congestion embolisation, peripheral angioplasty, varicose vein ablation, dialysis fistula salvage, bronchial artery embolisation for haemoptysis, IVC filter placement, EVAR and TEVAR for aortic disease, and vertebroplasty for painful vertebral fractures.
Dr. Kulkarni has published in peer-reviewed journals including Cureus, the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology and the International Journal of Research in Medical Sciences, and has presented papers and posters at national meetings. His honours include the Dr. K.P. Reddy Gold Medal at the 17th HARP Conference, Hyderabad, and first prizes for quiz and proffered paper presentation at the 46th Annual Conference of ORIA. He is a member of ISVIR and IRIA and consults in English, Hindi, Kannada and Odia.
