He went on to pursue a dedicated fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai, a high-volume transplant centre. During this fellowship he gained extensive exposure to the liver transplant unit, managing the interventional needs of patients both before and after liver transplantation, such as vascular and biliary complications that can often be treated without open surgery.
His principal clinical interests are oncology-related interventions and pre- and post-liver transplant procedures. Interventional oncology uses minimally invasive, image-guided techniques such as tumour embolisation, chemoembolisation and ablation to target cancers directly, often with shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery than conventional surgery.
Dr. Ashok Reddy Somu is a lifetime member of the Indian Society of Vascular and Interventional Radiology and the Indian Radiological Imaging Association, and is also a member of the Indian Medical Association. In addition to his medical qualifications, he holds a degree in Digital Marketing from MICA University, Ahmedabad.
