He is particularly known for his expertise in thyroid care, including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, thyroid nodules and thyroid disease in pregnancy. As an endocrinologist he also manages diabetes and its complications, obesity, and disorders of the pituitary, adrenal glands, bones and calcium metabolism.
Dr. Modi has contributed to research including a 1997 study in the Journal of Diabetes and its Complications on using pulse oximetry to assess autonomic neuropathy in diabetes, a 2007 paper in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism on the causes of early-onset type 2 diabetes in Indians, and a 2008 study in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics on evaluating thyrotoxicosis in pregnancy with colour flow Doppler sonography.
He is a member of the Endocrine Society of India, the Bone and Mineral Society of India, the Association of Physicians of India, the Endocrine Society (USA and UK) and the Thyroid Society of India.
