- His clinical expertise covers the full spectrum of gastroenterology, pancreatology, hepatology and advanced endoscopy. He manages liver diseases including cirrhosis, acute and chronic liver failure, hepatocellular carcinoma and Budd-Chiari syndrome, and pancreatic diseases including acute and chronic pancreatitis. He performs complex ERCP, EUS-guided pancreatic stenting, drainage of pancreatic fluid collections and endoscopic necrosectomy.
- Dr. Rana is skilled in third-space endoscopy such as POEM, ESD and STER, and in the early diagnosis and endoscopic resection of GI cancers using image-enhanced endoscopy, EMR, ESD and full-thickness resection. His interventional EUS work includes EUS-guided biliary drainage (EUS-HGS and EUS-CDS), vascular interventions for varices and pseudoaneurysms, and EUS-gastroenterostomy. He also treats complicated and steroid-refractory inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal tuberculosis, coeliac disease and irritable bowel syndrome.
- He has more than 20 publications, including randomised trials on simvastatin in cirrhosis published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology and JAMA (2025) and on pregabalin for chronic pancreatitis pain. His awards include the Best Abstract Presentation Prize at UEG Week, Berlin (2025), Poster of Distinction at APDW, Singapore (2025) and Best Oral Presentation at the EASL Congress, Milan (2024), along with EASL, ICMR and APDW/JGHF international travel grants.
