- Dr. Maydeo heads the Institute of Gastrosciences at the hospital and is one of India's best-known endoscopists. He received the Padma Shri from the President of India in 2013 for his outstanding contribution to medicine and gastroenterology, and he is a past President of the Society of GI Endoscopy of India (SGEI).
- He was the first to introduce third-space endoscopy in India in 2012, including POEM for achalasia, STER for sub-epithelial tumours and ARMS for reflux disease. These procedures allow conditions that once needed open or laparoscopic surgery to be treated through the mouth with an endoscope. In 2018 he also launched India's first Bariatric Endoscopy Programme, offering non-surgical weight-loss procedures.
- Dr. Maydeo has published 91 papers in national and international peer-reviewed journals and written chapters in 9 textbooks on GI endoscopy. He sits on the international Editorial Board of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (GIE), is a Co-Editor of Endoscopy International Open, and has repeatedly been recognised by GIE as an outstanding reviewer.
- A dedicated teacher, he has served as visiting faculty at more than 200 endoscopy workshops worldwide and has conducted 22 live international endoscopy workshops in Mumbai over 25 years. He runs the Endoscopy Gurukul training institute for young endoscopists from India and abroad, won awards at the first Endoscopy World Cup in Chicago and served on its jury at DDW 2016. He has been honoured as Master of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology and Master of the Society of GI Endoscopy of India.
