He was also Professor of Medicine at Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences and Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist at Yashoda Hospitals, Somajiguda, from 2018 to 2023, before joining CARE Hospitals as Clinical Director.
- He has performed over 8,500 endoscopies and 3,800 colonoscopies. His therapeutic work includes ERCP with biliary metal stenting for bile duct blockages, endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection for removing early tumours and large polyps without open surgery, and POEM (per-oral endoscopic myotomy) for achalasia cardia, a swallowing disorder of the oesophagus. He also performs polypectomy, variceal band ligation, argon plasma coagulation and endoclip placement for gastrointestinal bleeding, sigmoidoscopy and oesophageal manometry.
- Dr. Akash is actively involved in research. He was co-investigator in a double-blind randomised trial comparing 1000 mg mesalamine rectal suppositories with Canasa suppositories for mild to moderate ulcerative proctitis, and has published case reports on intrabiliary hydatid cyst rupture, oral contraceptive-associated cytolytic hepatitis, Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome with lower GI bleeding and combined uphill and downhill varices in rheumatic heart disease. He presented a poster at ISG on Helicobacter pylori infection and lipid profiles in pre-diabetic patients.
- He holds memberships of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, the Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India and the Indian Medical Association, and participates regularly in conferences and training programmes. He consults in English and Hindi.
