Dr. Vijaya Saradhi spent more than two decades on the faculty of the Department of Neurosurgery at NIMS, Hyderabad. He joined as Senior Resident in 2000, became Assistant Professor in 2001, Associate Professor in 2008, Unit Head in 2010 and Professor in 2013, and served as Head of the Department from 2017 to February 2023. He was also a Visiting Fellow at St. Joseph's Medical Centre and the Barrow Neurological Institute, Phoenix, Arizona (2002-2003).
Since 2001 he has performed over 25,000 neurosurgical operations. His expertise lies in skull base surgery, particularly in cranial and vertebral injuries, and he treats brain and spinal cord tumours, head and spine trauma, cerebral aneurysms (by clipping) and arteriovenous malformations. He performs degenerative and trauma spine surgery, including endoscopic and microscopic laminectomies and fenestrations.
In functional neurosurgery, he offers epilepsy surgery such as stereo-EEG evaluation, temporal lobectomy, hemispherotomy and lesionectomy, and deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease. He also performs paediatric endoscopic third ventriculostomy, a minimally invasive procedure that relieves hydrocephalus by creating a new pathway for cerebrospinal fluid.
A dedicated teacher, he has trained over 85 neurosurgeons across India and has served as an inspector for the NMC and National Board of Examinations since 2010, as well as a member of the drafting committee for NMC ethics regulations. He has written book chapters on topics including junctional instability, stroke surgery and craniovertebral junction pathology, and has authored around 25 journal articles on subjects such as moyamoya disease, deep brain stimulation and spinal surgery outcomes.
His honours include the Vaidyarathna Award from Sri Ramanujaseva Trust, presented by the Governor of Telangana in 2023, the Vaidya Siromani Award (2008) and the Vijayasaradhi Award (2007) from Megaciti Navakala Vedika. He is a member of the Neurological Society of India and the Andhra Pradesh Neuroscientists Association, and consults in Telugu, English, Hindi, Urdu and Sanskrit.
