Dr. Ayyadurai has worked in neurosurgery since 1998, beginning as a neurosurgery resident at Apollo Specialty Hospital, Chennai. He spent nearly two decades at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, rising from resident and senior resident to Assistant Professor (2012-2024) and Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, and founded the Amrita Centre for Neuroendoscopy in 2023 before joining Yashoda Hospitals as Clinical Director.
He has performed approximately 5,000 brain tumour surgeries, including skull base tumours, pituitary adenomas and meningiomas. His brain tumour work covers craniopharyngioma, gliomas including awake surgery, vestibular and trigeminal schwannomas, chordoma, chondrosarcoma, medulloblastoma and paediatric brain tumours, as well as microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm and temporal lobe epilepsy surgery.
Dr. Ayyadurai is known for robotic neurosurgery using the ROSA system, including a novel endoport technique, and for endoscopic skull base surgery performed through the nose, which allows deep-seated tumours to be removed without external incisions. He trained further at complex skull base endoscopy workshops at UPMC Pittsburgh (2018) and Stanford Medicine (2023), and also performs spinal cord tumour surgery, keyhole lumbar and cervical discectomy and spinal fusion.
He has published on robotic assistance in cranial neurosurgery in Operative Neurosurgery, water balance disorders after sellar surgery, molecular classification of low-grade gliomas and CNS lymphoma, and has given numerous invited lectures from 2006 to 2023. He serves as faculty and course director for endoscopic skull base workshops, was organising secretary of the Mid Term NESI Conference (2023), and is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Neurological Society of India, International Federation of Neuroendoscopy and Skull Base Surgery Society of India. He consults in English, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Bengali.
