Flat Feet Correction Surgery in India

What are Flat feet?

You have flatfeet when the arches on the inside of your feet are flattened, allowing the entire soles of your feet to touch the floor when you stand up. A common and usually painless condition, flatfeet can occur when the arches don't develop during childhood. In other cases, flatfeet develop after an injury or from the simple wear-and-tear stresses of age.

Symptoms

  • Pain, tenderness, and/or cramping in the feet or legs, especially along the bottom of the feet.
  • Heels that tilt outward.
  • A change in walking.
  • Pain or discomfort while walking.

Causes

  • Obesity
  • Injury to your foot or ankle
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Aging
  • Diabetes

A flat foot is normal in infants and toddlers, because the foot's arch hasn't yet developed. Most people's arches develop throughout childhood, but some people never develop arches. This is a normal variation in foot type, and people without arches may or may not have problems.

Diagnosis

Imaging tests

  • X-rays. A simple X-ray uses a small amount of radiation to produce images of the bones and joints in your feet. It's particularly useful in detecting arthritis.
  • CT scan. This test takes X-rays of your foot from different angles and provides much more detail than a standard X-ray.
  • Ultrasound. If your doctor suspects an injured tendon, he or she may request this test, which uses sound waves to produce detailed images of soft tissues within the body.
  • MRI. Using radio waves and a strong magnet, MRIs provide excellent detail of both hard and soft tissues.

Treatment

If your flatfoot condition is bothersome, consider the following treatment options:

  • Purchase better-fitting shoes.
  • Use shoe inserts, such as arch supports. These can be obtained over-the-counter, or you may require custom-made inserts with a prescription from your doctor.
  • Take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to relieve pain.
  • Rest the foot and apply ice to the painful area.
  • Follow a physical therapy regimen prescribed by your doctor.
  • Undergo surgery if conservative treatments fail.

Surgical procedures to correct flatfoot include:

  • Repairing a stretched or torn tendon.
  • Fusing one or more of the bones in the foot or ankle together.
  • Cutting and reshaping a bone to correct alignment.
  • Using a piece of one tendon to lengthen or replace another.

Frequently asked questions

Q.Why Flat Feet Are Bad for Your Health?

Flat feet are not as proficient at keeping the body stable as feet that have a normal arch. As a consequence, people with flat feet are at a higher risk of developing chronic muscle strain as the muscles of the body are forced to compensate for the foot's lack of stability.

Q.Why do people have flat feet?

Flat feet are caused by a variety of conditions including injuries, obesity, and arthritis. Aging, genetics, and pregnancy can also contribute to flat feet. You're also more likely to have flat feet if you have a neurological or muscular disease such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or spina bifida.

Q.How do you fix flat feet?

  • Arch supports (orthotic devices). Over-the-counter arch supports may help relieve the pain caused by flatfeet.
  • Stretching exercises. Some people with flatfeet also have a shortened Achilles tendon.
  • Supportive shoes.
  • Physical therapy.

Q.How long does it take to fix flat feet?

In the case of flatfoot surgery recovery, you will likely face approximately 12 weeks to achieve permission for full weight-bearing activities.

Q.Can flat feet make your ankles hurt?

Flat feet can cause intense pain in your feet, ankles and lower leg muscles, as well as in your hips and lower back.

Q.What is a PTTD brace?

Treat posterior tibial tendon dysfunction (PTTD) or early signs and symptoms of adult-acquired flat foot.Designed for easy application and adjustment, the brace uses an innovative rear entry design which allows the patient to slip their foot into the back of the brace and secure with two straps.
