Know More About Procedure & Surgery
Laparoscopic Endometriosis Surgery in India
Keyhole surgery to remove endometriosis causing painful periods, pelvic pain or difficulty getting pregnant, done by experienced laparoscopic gynaecologists at accredited Indian hospitals – with care to protect the ovaries, at a fraction of Western costs.
📖 What is Endometriosis Surgery?
Endometriosis is a long-term condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the womb (endometrium) grows outside the uterus – on the ovaries, the lining of the pelvis, the bowel or the bladder. This tissue bleeds with each period, causing inflammation, scarring and adhesions (organs sticking together). It affects about 1 in 10 women of reproductive age and can cause severe period pain, chronic pelvic pain, pain during sex, heavy bleeding and difficulty getting pregnant. Cysts on the ovary filled with old blood are called endometriomas or 'chocolate cysts'.
Laparoscopic endometriosis surgery is keyhole surgery done through 3–4 small cuts in the abdomen. A camera lets the surgeon see and confirm the disease, then remove it by excision (cutting it out) or ablation (burning or vaporising it), free adhesions and remove ovarian cysts while protecting healthy ovarian tissue. It both diagnoses and treats the disease, and can improve the chance of pregnancy.

🌱 Recovery After Treatment
🏆 Success Rate
| Outcome | Result |
|---|---|
| Pain relief after laparoscopic surgery | About 70–80% of women |
| Natural pregnancy after surgery (stage I–II, within 1–2 years) | About 30–50%, depends on age |
| Recurrence of symptoms within 5 years | About 20–40%; lower with hormone treatment |
| Recurrence of endometrioma after excision | About 10–30% within 5 years |
Results depend on the stage of disease, complete removal by an experienced surgeon, your age and egg reserve, and the use of hormone treatment after surgery when pregnancy is not planned.
🩹 Risks & Possible Complications
Laparoscopic endometriosis surgery is generally safe, especially for mild to moderate disease.
- •Shoulder-tip and abdominal pain from gas – common, settles in 1–3 days
- •Reduced egg reserve (AMH) after ovarian cyst removal – common, surgeons use careful techniques to limit it
- •Return of endometriosis – about 20–40% over 5 years
- •Wound infection or urine infection – about 1–2%
- •Bleeding needing transfusion – under 1%
- •Injury to bowel, bladder or ureter – under 1% for mild disease, higher for deep disease
- •Conversion to open surgery – rare
