He received advanced training at the University of Ancona, Asan Medical Centre in Seoul and Royal Brisbane Hospital in Australia.
- His clinical expertise covers COPD and bronchial asthma, lung fibrosis and interstitial lung disease, obstructive sleep apnoea and lung infections. He performs a full range of pulmonary interventions, including bronchoscopy, EBUS, thoracoscopy and cryobiopsy, which allow accurate diagnosis of lung cancer, enlarged lymph nodes and diffuse lung diseases with minimal invasiveness. He also places strong emphasis on smoking cessation, vaccination and BiPAP counselling.
- He has contributed to several national guidelines on asthma, COPD, bronchoscopy and community-acquired pneumonia, and has authored over 30 scientific publications and textbook chapters. As founder of the Pulmo-Pathshala series, he has trained hundreds of doctors across India and remains active in academic leadership and interventional pulmonology training in India and abroad.
- Dr. Gopal has received the Prof. A.S. Paintal-Dr. R.C. Jain Memorial Chest Oration (2025) of the National College of Chest Physicians (India), the Vashishth Chikitsa Ratan Award of the Indian Medical Association, Delhi State Chapter (2023), and the Young Scientist Award of the National College of Chest Physicians (India) in 1999. He is a Fellow of multiple Indian and international societies.
