About Dr. Randeep Guleria [DM - Pulmonary Medicine, MD - Medicine, MBBS]

Dr. Randeep Guleria is Chairman, Institute of Internal Medicine and Respiratory & Sleep Medicine at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, and previously served as Director of AIIMS, New Delhi for over five years, capping more than three decades on its faculty.
He is credited as the first Indian to receive a Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and was instrumental in setting up AIIMS' dedicated Department of Pulmonary Medicine & Sleep Disorders in 2011.
He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2015 and the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award for Eminent Medical Person in 2014, India's highest medical recognitions, and played a prominent public-health role during India's COVID-19 response.
He also received the Swastha Bharat Samman (LIC & Zee TV), the Himachal Gaurav Puraskar, the 22nd Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence (2021), and the Lung India Award for best original article from the Indian Chest Society (2014).
He holds honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) Honoris Causa degrees from IIT Kharagpur and Amity University, and serves as an advisor to the WHO (Geneva) and the IAEA (Vienna), as well as a member of the WHO's Scientific Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on immunisation and influenza vaccination.
With 400+ scientific publications and 49 book chapters, his research and clinical focus spans lung cancer, asthma, COPD, respiratory-muscle function and sleep disorders. He is fluent in English and Hindi.
