Know More About Procedure & Surgery
Orchiectomy (Simple / Bilateral Orchidectomy) in India
Orchiectomy (orchidectomy) is the surgical removal of one or both testicles. A bilateral (both-sided) simple or subcapsular orchidectomy is a well-established, one-time treatment for advanced prostate cancer, as it stops testosterone production. Unilateral orchiectomy is done for a damaged, twisted, infected or non-functioning testis. (Removal for suspected testicular cancer is done by the inguinal route - see our Inguinal Orchidectomy package.)
Cost of orchiectomy in India starts from USD 2500 at leading JCI / NABH accredited hospitals. 2 days in hospital; total stay in india 5-7 days.
| Package | Cost (USD) | Room | Hospital stay |

About the Procedure
- Simple orchiectomy is done through a small incision in the scrotum under spinal or general anaesthesia.
- In subcapsular orchiectomy, the inner tissue of the testis is removed but the outer capsule is left, so the scrotum looks more normal.
- A silicone testicular prosthesis can be placed for cosmetic reasons if desired (charged extra).
- The operation takes about 30-60 minutes and most patients go home in 1-2 days.
Purpose of the Procedure
- Reduce testosterone in advanced or metastatic prostate cancer (surgical castration) - a one-time, cost-effective alternative to lifelong hormone injections
- Remove a testis destroyed by torsion, severe infection, abscess or trauma
- Remove an atrophic or non-functioning undescended testis in adults
- Part of gender-affirming surgery in selected cases
Diagnosis and Tests Before the Procedure
- PSA, bone scan / PSMA PET-CT and biopsy reports in prostate cancer
- Scrotal ultrasound with Doppler
- Testosterone level
- Blood tests, ECG and pre-anaesthesia evaluation
- Tumour markers (AFP, beta-HCG, LDH) if a testicular mass is present
Step-by-Step Procedure
- Urology consultation, counselling and consent
- Spinal or general anaesthesia
- Small scrotal (or inguinal, if indicated) incision
- Ligation of the spermatic cord and removal of the testis or testicular tissue
- Optional testicular prosthesis placement
- Closure with absorbable stitches; discharge in 1-2 days
Risks and Possible Complications
- Scrotal bleeding or haematoma
- Wound infection
- After bilateral orchiectomy: hot flushes, reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, bone thinning and weight gain (effects of low testosterone)

Your specialist will explain the risks specific to your condition. Choosing an experienced, high-volume hospital keeps complication rates very low.
Recovery and Aftercare

- Light activity in a week, normal activity in 2-3 weeks
