- Dr. Sheth served as President of the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), the world body encompassing 110 countries, from 2000 to 2003. His special interest is gynaecological vaginal surgery, particularly hysterectomy.
- He has had the honour of operating at vaginal surgery workshops for practising gynaecologists in London six times, in Malaysia and Egypt twice each, in China, South Africa, Singapore, Australia and Lithuania, and in more than 35 cities in India. He also holds honorary fellowships of the obstetric and gynaecological societies of Canada, Brazil, Chile, Yugoslavia, Nigeria, Poland and Australia.
- His original contributions to clinical practice include describing the utero-cervical broad ligament space known as Sheth's Space, inventing the Adnexa Clamp (marketed as Sheth's Adnexa Clamp by Cooper Surgical, USA), and describing the Cervico-Fundal clinical sign and the Dimple sign. He pioneered vaginal removal of ovaries for breast cancer, vaginal removal of broad ligament fibroids and myomectomy at vaginal hysterectomy, and designed a special Pneumo-Surgical pack.
- He has made 364 presentations at national and international conferences and has 180 scientific publications, 88 in international and 92 in national journals. He has written and edited the books Menorrhagia, Vaginal Hysterectomy, Advanced Vaginal Surgery and Best Practice and Research Clinical Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- His honours include lifetime achievement awards from the All India Obstetrics and Gynaecological Societies in 1999 and 2015 and he was the first recipient of the Lion Heart Award (USA) for outstanding contributions to vaginal surgery in 2001. As a Rotarian gynaecologist he performed more than 10,000 laparoscopic sterilisations in rural camps between 1977 and 1984 and received Rotary's highest Service Above Self Award in 2002.
