- His areas of interest include precision radiation therapy for solid tumours using IMRT, IGRT and SBRT, intracranial stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy, and extracranial SBRT/SABR for lung, liver, pancreas, prostate, spine and oligometastatic disease. He has a particular focus on women's cancers, prostate cancer and CNS tumours, and on reducing acute and late radiation side effects through modern planning and delivery techniques. Stereotactic treatments deliver very high, precisely targeted doses in a few sessions while sparing surrounding healthy tissue.
- He delivers the full range of external beam radiotherapy, including conventional, 3D-CRT, IMRT (static and VMAT), IGRT and SRS/SRT/SBRT, along with brachytherapy: intracavitary for gynaecological cancers, intraluminal for oesophageal and endobronchial tumours and interstitial for breast, head and neck cancers and soft tissue sarcomas. He has treated more than 15,000 patients with radiation therapy.
- Dr. Basu has guided DNB Radiation Oncology students for 11 years and is a DNB-accredited teacher and examiner. He organised a state-level AROI conference and conducted an ESTRO teaching school on advanced radiation techniques in 2016. He is Vice President of AROI Maharashtra, a life member of the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India, the Indian Society of Neuro Oncology and the Oncology Group of Pune, and a member of ESTRO.
