His career began with residencies in Orthopaedics at PGIMER, Chandigarh and AIIMS, New Delhi, followed by a post as Lecturer and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi and as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester, England.
- He served as Director of the Division of Joint Replacement Surgery and Senior Consultant in Orthopaedics and Trauma at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi (1995-2004) and as Honorary Consultant to Indian Railways. He was Chairman of Orthopaedics at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket (2009-2016), Group Medical Director (2011) and Vice Chairman and Board member of Max Healthcare (2011-14), and Chairman and Chief Surgeon of the Medanta Bone and Joint Institute, Gurugram (2016-2019), before returning to lead orthopaedics across the Max group.
- He has held many of the highest offices in Indian and Asian orthopaedics, including President of the Indian Orthopaedic Association (2013), President of the Arthroplasty Society in Asia (2015-17), President of the Indian Arthroplasty Association and the Indian Society of Hip and Knee Surgeons (2011-12), and Chairman of Knee Arthroplasty for SICOT. He is a permanent faculty member of AO Switzerland (AORECON), a permanent board member of the Asia Pacific Arthroplasty Society and a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
- His honours include the Bharat Jyoti Award (2003), the DMA Distinguished Services Award (2005), the BOS Book Award of the Bombay Orthopaedic Society for his book on surface replacement of the hip, the Best Publication Award of the Delhi Orthopaedic Association (2008), the Haryana Vigyan Ratna Award (2012) and the B N Sinha Meritorious Award of the Indian Orthopaedic Association (2018).
