- In 1997 he was a Fellow of the Varoon Mahajan Memorial Trust at Cornell University Medical College, New York, USA. During his internal medicine training he also rotated through cardiology, pulmonary medicine, nephrology and casualty, giving him a strong grounding in managing medical emergencies in cancer patients.
- His clinical interests include haematological malignancies, genitourinary cancers with special interest in testicular, ovarian and prostate cancers, sarcomas, gastrointestinal and colorectal tumours, paediatric cancers and immunotherapy. He also has special interest in autologous bone marrow transplantation with high-dose chemotherapy and stem cell rescue, an approach used to deliver intensive treatment in lymphomas, myeloma and selected solid tumours.
- Dr. Almel has five years of clinical trials experience and has served as Principal Investigator on multiple international phase 2 and phase 3 studies in breast, lung, head and neck, gastric and prostate cancers, and was involved in the MCP-841 and MCP-842 trials with the National Cancer Institute, USA, for acute leukaemia and high-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He received ICH-GCP training in Bangkok in 2008 and co-authored a randomised study published in The Lancet Oncology, along with numerous papers presented at national and international conferences in China, Brazil, Canada and the USA.
