Gulati in peripheral blood stem cell transplantation, autologous bone marrow transplantation and cryopreservation. He was also a visiting fellow at a European bone marrow transplantation centre, gaining experience in matched unrelated, allogeneic and autologous transplants for multiple myeloma and acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
- Dr. Basade is credited with several firsts in India, including the first use of peripheral stem cell transplantation in chronic myeloid leukaemia, the first unrelated umbilical cord blood stem cell transplant for thalassaemia major and the first bone marrow stem cell transplant for sickle cell disease, as well as Asia's first unrelated cord blood stem cell transplant for Krabbe's disease.
- He is actively involved in research as Principal Investigator for new-drug clinical trials and phase II and III cancer studies, and is pursuing a PhD in pharmacogenomics in ovarian cancer. He is a recognised teacher for DNB Medical Oncology, has served as Regional Representative for India, Pakistan and Bangladesh of the European Society for Medical Oncology, and is an executive body member of the Indian Society of Medical and Paediatric Oncology.
