He has performed hundreds of VATS and robotic lung resections, and in March 2022 his team, together with Dr. Diego Gonzalez Rivas, performed India's first uniportal robotic thoracic surgery.
- His practice covers robotic surgery, uniportal and multiportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), uniportal robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS), chest wall deformity repair, rib fixation and VATS or robotic diaphragmatic repair, as well as bilateral, unilateral and lobar lung transplantation. He has a special interest in uniportal surgery for lung cancer and inflammatory lung diseases, and in VATS and robotic thymectomy for myasthenia gravis. These keyhole techniques reduce pain, blood loss and hospital stay compared with open chest surgery.
- Dr. Bale has published on uniportal fully robotic-assisted pulmonary and sleeve resections in the Annals of Cardiothoracic Surgery (2023), on surgery for inflammatory lung disease in Respirology (2017), and on laparoscopic procedures in Surgical Endoscopy (2019), and has written book chapters on pulmonary infections, the thymus, lung cancer and hydatid cyst surgery. He has presented at the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Asia Pacific Society of Respirology meetings.
- His honours include the Vaidya Shree Award 2022 from Mother Foundation, the Vaidya Ratna Award 2021, the APJ Abdul Kalam Medical Excellence Award and the Emerging Robotic Surgeon Award from Top Gallant Foundation.
