He is a former Editor of the Indian Journal of Medical Ethics, served as Convener of the Ethics Committee of the Medical Council of India from 2010 to 2013, and is President of the Association for Consumer Action on Safety and Health (ACASH).
- In 2019 he received the Annual Prize and Oration at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, USA, in recognition of his contributions to diabetic limb salvage. His patient-care approach combines surgical expertise with education on foot care, footwear and prevention for people living with diabetes.
