Paediatric rheumatology was a largely self-taught mid-career shift for him from 2003, and he has since built a database of over 4000 children with musculoskeletal diseases from Western India.
- Teaching is his passion. He has conceptualised and hosted several novel programmes, including Asthma By Consensus (IAP guidelines for asthma care), the IAP Asthma Training Module, Reach and Teach (a week-long paediatric rheumatology course for paediatricians), ReCAP 1 and ReCAP 2 under the auspices of PReS, PROCIN (an online paediatric rheumatology course for IAP with the University of Newcastle) and the PaedCast series with Dr. Y.K. Amdekar.
- A popular speaker on the national and international stage, he has over 144 indexed publications and has guided 11 postgraduate students in Paediatrics and three post-doctoral fellows in Paediatric Rheumatology. He has been invited as faculty to paediatric rheumatology teaching courses in Bangladesh, Kenya, Switzerland and South Africa.
- He is the founder-convenor of the Rheumatology Chapter of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics and has been awarded several orations, notably the prestigious Shantilal Sheth Oration of the IAP. He has served on five international consensus panels covering diagnostic criteria for vasculitis in children, macrophage activation syndrome, classification of JIA, flare criteria in lupus and JIA management in less developed countries.
- His clinical work covers inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases, vasculitis and autoinflammatory conditions in children, where early diagnosis and long-term, family-centred follow-up are key to preserving joint function and growth.
