She set up the first liver transplant programme in Western India at Jaslok Hospital in 1998, was part of the team that performed the first paediatric liver transplant in Western India and has been involved in the management of liver transplant patients ever since. She is also credited with bringing the drug trientine, used to treat Wilson disease, to India.
- Her clinical expertise covers cirrhosis and portal hypertension, fatty liver disease, alcohol-related liver disease, viral hepatitis B and C, hepatocellular carcinoma, Budd-Chiari syndrome and rare metabolic disorders such as Wilson disease and Gaucher disease. She is Managing Trustee of the Children Liver Foundation, Chairperson of the SAASL Women's Forum, Liver Committee Chairperson of the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC), Mumbai, a Liver Committee member of ROTTO and SOTTO, an editorial board member of the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology and a member of several INASL task forces.
- She has an outstanding academic profile with a long list of publications from 1990 to 2022 on Wilson disease, Gaucher disease, Budd-Chiari syndrome, drug-induced liver injury, hepatitis C and paediatric liver transplantation. She has authored the chapter on inherited liver disorders in the API Textbook of Medicine (11th and 12th editions) and has given more than 1,500 lectures and presentations.
- Her honours include the EASL Young Investigator Travel Bursary (1997), several merit scholarships including the K. C. Mahindra and Phirojshah Godrej scholarships, and presidential orations in Cuttack and Aurangabad in 2015.
