His procedural skills include endotracheal intubation, needle cricothyroidotomy and emergency tracheostomy for airway emergencies, central venous and arterial access, intraosseous access, mechanical ventilation, intercostal drainage and needle decompression for chest injuries, pericardiocentesis, and transcutaneous and transvenous pacing for life-threatening heart rhythm problems.
- He uses point-of-care ultrasonography in the ER and ICU to make rapid bedside decisions, and also performs fibre-optic bronchoscopy, paracentesis, lumbar puncture, Sengstaken-Blakemore tube placement for variceal bleeding, nasal packing for severe nosebleeds, and reduction of shoulder, elbow, knee and hip dislocations.
- As an American Heart Association ACLS and PALS instructor, he trains doctors, nurses and paramedical staff in adult and paediatric resuscitation, and he is dedicated to improving emergency care protocols and mentoring young physicians. His contributions have been recognised with the Dharmika Shikara Award (2021), the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Award (2021) and a Life Time Achievement Award (2022).
