Know More About Procedure & Surgery
Dental Deep Cleaning (Scaling & Root Planing) in India
Full-mouth deep cleaning to treat gum disease, bleeding gums, bad breath and loose teeth, done by experienced periodontists at accredited dental clinics in India – at a small fraction of US, UK or Gulf prices.
📖 What is Dental Deep Cleaning?
Plaque is a sticky layer of germs that forms on teeth every day. If it is not removed, it hardens into tartar (calculus) and spreads below the gumline. The gums become red, swollen and bleed easily (gingivitis). Over time the germs damage the bone and fibres holding the teeth, creating deep gaps called pockets. This is periodontitis, a leading cause of tooth loss in adults, and it is linked to diabetes and heart disease.
Deep cleaning, also called scaling and root planing (SRP), is a non-surgical gum treatment. The dentist removes plaque and tartar from above and below the gumline (scaling) and smooths the root surfaces (root planing) so that gums can heal and reattach to the teeth. It goes deeper than a routine cleaning (prophylaxis), which only cleans above the gums. Numbing gel or a small local injection is used where pockets are deep, so the treatment is comfortable.

🏥 The Procedure — Step by Step

⚖️ Types & Techniques
| Treatment | What is done | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Routine scaling & polishing | Cleaning above the gumline | Healthy gums or mild gingivitis |
| Full-mouth deep cleaning (SRP) | Cleaning above and below the gumline with root planing | Periodontitis with pockets of 4–6 mm |
| SRP with local antibiotic | Antibiotic gel or chip placed in deep pockets | Pockets that stay deep after SRP |
| Laser-assisted gum therapy | Laser used with SRP to reduce germs | Selected patients; extra cost |
| Flap surgery / bone graft | Gum surgery to clean very deep pockets | Advanced disease with pockets over 6 mm |
📅 Your Day-by-Day Plan in India
| Day | What happens |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Arrival and hotel check-in |
| Day 2 | Consultation, X-rays and full-mouth deep cleaning (45–60 minutes) |
| Day 3–6 | Mild gum sensitivity; continue holiday or other dental work |
| Day 7 | Optional review if other treatment is planned, then fly home ✈️ |
🌱 Recovery After Treatment
🏆 Success Rate
| Outcome | Result |
|---|---|
| Pocket depth reduction | About 1–2 mm on average |
| Bleeding gums improved | Most patients within 2–4 weeks |
| Gum attachment gain | About 0.5–1 mm |
| HbA1c drop in diabetics | About 0.3–0.4% |
Results depend on how deep the pockets are, smoking, diabetes control and good daily brushing and flossing. Regular maintenance cleanings are needed to stop the disease from returning.
